PGT Bathroom Remodeling: The West Palm Beach Owner’s Guide

PGT bathroom remodeling in West Palm Beach typically runs $9,000-$28,000 installed, depending on whether we’re refreshing a guest bath or gutting a master with PGT impact-rated windows integrated into the layout. We stock PGT-compatible framing materials, moisture barriers rated for South Florida humidity, and the full line of PGT WinGuard and PGT Architectural Series window specs that most West Palm Beach homes built after 2004 already have. Most owners first realize something’s wrong when the caulk line between their shower surround and PGT window frame starts weeping black, or when the sill under a PGT vented unit has gone soft from years of steam with no mechanical exhaust.

Which PGT Models This Applies To

We’ve worked with PGT windows in West Palm Beach bathrooms across three main product families: WinGuard Aluminum (WGA series, common in 2004-2016 construction), WinGuard Vinyl (WGV series, 2010 onward), and the PGT Architectural Series (heavy commercial-grade aluminum found in waterfront condos along Flagler Drive and the Intracoastal). The critical compatibility issue is frame depth. WinGuard Vinyl frames run 3¼ inches deep, while Architectural Series frames run 4½ inches. If your bathroom remodel involves moving a shower wall or building a tiled niche around an existing PGT unit, that inch-plus difference determines whether your tile setter can float a proper mud bed or ends up with a skinny, cracked grout line at the window return.

Every PGT window has a white spec label in the top track or on the hinge side of the sash. We photograph that label before demolition, cross-reference the NFRC ratings, and confirm the exact rough opening with a laser measure. For OEM replacement, we order through PGT’s distributor network with a 10-14 day lead time. For remodels where we’re reframing anyway, we often spec quality aftermarket equivalents from CGI or CWS that match the Miami-Dade HVHZ ratings at lower cost, but only when the customer sees the spec sheet side by side and signs off. Rowan Construction Group West Palm Beach is an independent service provider, not affiliated with PGT.

Signs Your PGT Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

Signs Your PGT Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing
  • Soft drywall at the window return. PGT frames are aluminum or vinyl, but the surrounding paper-faced drywall isn’t. In West Palm Beach, where interior humidity can hold above 60% eight months a year, unsealed returns wick moisture and turn to oatmeal behind the tile. We find this most often in guest baths with original 2006-2012 construction and no exhaust fan.
  • Calcified or missing caulk at the sill. Hard water from Palm Beach County municipal supply leaves white crust on PGT vinyl sills. Once the caulk bead cracks, water tracks behind the frame and into the stud bay. The window still opens fine; the wall behind it is the problem.
  • Condensation between panes on PGT WinGuard laminated units. This means the edge seal has failed. In a bathroom, the temperature swing between hot showers and AC-cooled rooms accelerates the breach. The glass is still impact-rated, but the thermal performance and clarity are gone.
  • Tile cracking in a radius around the window. PGT units in original construction were often shimmed and nailed with insufficient backing for the tile weight that followed. As the bathroom settles (common in West Palm Beach’s sandy, well-draining soils), the window frame stays put while the wall moves. The tile loses.
  • Musty smell with no visible leak. PGT vented units have weep holes at the sill that clog with construction dust and Florida pollen. Water ponds, mold colonizes the track, and the smell hits before the stain shows. We clear weep holes with a piano wire and document the condition with photos.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Scope Price Range (West Palm Beach)
Small bathroom refresh (vanity, toilet, surround, PGT window seal) $5,000-$12,000
Full bathroom remodel with PGT window integration $9,000-$28,000
Walk-in shower installation (new pan, glass, PGT vented unit reframe) $4,500-$12,000
Tub-to-shower conversion with PGT window relocation $3,500-$10,000
PGT window replacement only (in existing tiled opening) $800-$2,500 per unit

What drives the range: floor plan changes (moving a PGT window means engineered headers and permit drawings), the condition of the subfloor after we pull the old pan (we’ve found rot extending three feet into the hallway in Flagler Drive condos with shared plumbing walls), and finish level. A Kohler Choreograph shower wall system runs less than hand-set porcelain with Schluter-Kerdi waterproofing, but both get the same written scope and the same 365-Day Done Right Promise. Under Clause 1 of The Haven Standard, the price is written before anyone starts. No change proceeds without a signed change order. Our projects finish within a few percent of the agreed number because we don’t start until the number is agreed.

Every bathroom remodel includes: permit pull and inspection scheduling, documented photo record of pre-existing conditions and each trade’s work, moisture testing of the PGT window surround with a pinless meter, and a written warranty on workmanship. We also source KraftMaid and Wellborn cabinetry, Cambria and Silestone countertops, and Kohler or Toto fixtures - fifty-plus vetted brands total - so the quote reflects honest material costs, not a single-source markup.

Here’s what you can safely check yourself: run the shower for ten minutes, then feel the drywall return below the PGT window. If it’s damp or discolored, you’ve got a breach. Check the weep holes at the sill with a flashlight; if they’re packed with grit, clear them gently with a pipe cleaner. Look at the spec label and photograph it - that’s useful information for any contractor.

Where DIY goes wrong: bathroom remodels involve three trades minimum (plumbing, electrical, tile), and in West Palm Beach, any work beyond cosmetic requires a permit from the City of West Palm Beach Building Department or Palm Beach County, depending on your address. More critically, removing a PGT impact-rated window and reinstalling it in a new tiled opening requires recertification of the HVHZ fastening pattern - the screws must hit structural members at specific spacing, and the frame must be shimmed to tolerate the deflection load of a hurricane. Get it wrong and your wind mitigation inspection fails, which means your insurance discount disappears. We’ve re-done three owner-DIY bathroom jobs in the past two years where the PGT unit was floating in silicone with no mechanical fasteners. Measure twice, document everything, then get out of the way and let the work speak.
