Settlement, thermal expansion cycles, or worn keepers (the metal strikes the hooks engage) will throw off the geometry. Forcing the handle accelerates wear on the internal cam.
• Drafts or temperature stratification near the window. Weatherstripping compression set is the usual cause. The bulb-style gasket on CWS sashes is EPDM rubber, which hardens and shrinks in UV exposure.
