Oldcastle Windows & Doors: The West Palm Beach Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Oldcastle-compatible windows and doors across West Palm Beach, with most replacement projects running $4,500-$15,000 for full window replacement and $8,000-$25,000 for impact-rated installs. Parts for common failures - balances, locks, weatherstripping, and sash hardware - are typically available same-day once we identify your series. Most West Palm Beach homeowners discover a problem when the sash won’t stay up, the lock won’t engage, or they feel salt-air draft around the frame after a storm season.

Which Oldcastle Models This Applies To

Oldcastle building envelope products were sold under several series names depending on the year and distributor. We most often see the Oldcastle BuildingEnvelope commercial-grade storefront systems in downtown West Palm Beach condos along Flagler Drive, and the residential Oldcastle Glass vinyl and aluminum window lines in homes built between 2005 and 2018. To identify your exact part, check the spacer bar between the glass panes for an etched “OBE” or “Oldcastle” mark, or look for a sticker on the frame jamb with a six-digit model code starting in “OB-” or “VIN-“.

The OEM part question matters for Oldcastle because the company restructured its window and door division in 2019, and some original SKUs are now serviced through C.R. Laurence or regional distributors with longer lead times. We stock quality aftermarket equivalents for balances, cam locks, and sweep weatherstripping that match Oldcastle’s original specs - same stainless-steel balance springs, same DuPont Delrin lock housings - without the 3-4 week OEM wait. For impact-rated units in West Palm Beach, we verify the DP rating (Design Pressure, typically 50-70 psf in this wind zone) before substituting any component.

Signs Your Oldcastle Windows & Doors Is Failing

Signs Your Oldcastle Windows & Doors Is Failing
  • Sash drops or won’t stay open. The coil balance system has lost tension or the balance shoe has cracked. In West Palm Beach’s humidity, the nylon balance shoes degrade faster than in drier climates - we replace them with UV-stabilized equivalents rated for South Florida exposure.
  • Visible moisture between glass panes. The insulated glass unit (IGU) seal has failed, allowing humid air to enter. Once you see fogging, the Low-E coating is already compromised and the thermal performance is gone; the IGU needs replacement, not defogging.
  • Lock won’t fully engage or feels loose. The cam lock mechanism has worn or the keeper has shifted due to frame settlement. Oldcastle’s original zinc alloy cams are prone to this; we upgrade to brass or stainless when we service them.
  • Draft around the frame perimeter. Compression weatherstripping has flattened or the sill sweep has torn. Salt air accelerates the compression set in rubber gaskets - they stop rebounding after 5-7 years near the coast.
  • Difficulty sliding or tilting the sash. The pivot bar or tilt latch has fractured, often from forced operation when the balance was already failing. Continuing to operate it risks dropping the sash out of the frame.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

For Oldcastle window and door repair in West Palm Beach, here’s how pricing breaks down:

Service Price Range
Balance / coil spring replacement (per sash) $180-$340
Cam lock and keeper set $120-$220
IGU (glass unit) replacement $350-$750 per unit
Full weatherstripping package $280-$520
Sash hardware kit (tilt latches, pivot bars) $160-$290
Full window replacement (standard vinyl) $4,500-$15,000
Impact window replacement $8,000-$25,000

The range depends on three factors: whether we can source aftermarket parts or need OEM, how many units are affected, and whether the frame itself is square and sound. Every quote is a flat written price with line-item parts and labor - no change order unless you request additional work and sign for it. Under Clause 1 of the Haven Standard, that written price is delivered before anyone picks up a tool. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers the installation and the parts we supply.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a safe middle ground for Oldcastle owners. You can check the model sticker location, photograph the failed component, and verify whether the sash issue is localized to one window or systemic - that information saves us time and you money. What we don’t recommend: removing a sash with a failed balance (the sash is heavy and the remaining balance is under tension), cutting zip-strip weatherstripping to fit (it won’t seal), or attempting IGU replacement (the glass is tempered, the argon fill requires factory sealing, and the DP rating must be preserved for West Palm Beach wind codes).

We carry Oldcastle-compatible balances, locks, and weatherstripping on our service trucks. If we don’t have your exact part, we’ll source it and schedule the return visit - no charge for the callback if the delay is on our end. Call (561) 475-3903 to schedule your free estimate.
